Whenever the monthly newsletter pops up in my email, I always get a warm fuzzy from the memories we made seven years ago at the Historic Rapids Lodge. Our daughter Annie was born in 2011. It wasn't until August 2012 that my husband and I got any time alone just to be a husband and wife. We were in full new parent mode and very tired from having a new baby in the house. Our friend was very kind to offer to watch our baby, so we randomly picked Grand Lake to get away and landed at The Historic Rapid Lodge. It was such a treat to reconnect in a little mountain town, in a super cute lodge that sits next to a creek and walk hand-in-hand everywhere we wanted to go. I felt like I was living in a dream that weekend. We loved parking the car and not need it until it was time to leave. Now we have two kids and busier than ever. I daydream about going back to the Historic Rapids Lodge and reconnecting again as husband and wife after all these years of parenting. It was so peaceful.
Rooms were super clean. The owners are such lovely people with wonderful food and of course, hospitality. I've never felt more at home when I'm away from home, even though I live in Denver. Beautiful walk down the path to the river, gazebo, etc. I can go on about this place… just amazing. Check it out and stay here, all walking distance to downtown, church, and RMNP!
We came up to support small businesses in a safe manner, to keep things open. This family-owned place is cute, has good food, and excellent customer service. They adhered to all requirements to stay open and stay safe! Support small businesses that are practice safe operating protocols.
If you are looking for fine dining, this is the place. By the river, great atmosphere, and service is top-notch. Not to mention, the food is outstanding. All in all, a great place. They also have a lodge, and it is walking distance to downtown Grand Lake.
We have been staying at the Rapids for 30+ years and prefer the old upstairs hotel rooms or the three cabins for their ambiance. The restaurant is second to none for food quality and service.
Right behind the lodge is nature at its best and a beautiful lake in walking distance … I absolutely loved it.
I wish I could give six stars, so I'll write a glowing review and stick with the max 5 Stars. The service was spectacular, as well as the food. We ordered the elk chops and split. We were assessed a $8 split plate fee, but it was well worth it. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Great experience, and I plan on going back. We ate outside next to the river. It was so relaxing hearing the cascading falls and seeing them with mountains in the background. We even saw a hawk dive into the river and grab a fish than fly off. I would highly recommend this for the ambiance and the food.
I absolutely love this place. There are no descriptions that do it justice. Rustic but comfortable. Great staff. Amazing backdrop. I almost don't wish to share, because I'm afraid it will be overrun, but everyone should have a chance to stay here. If you are unable to book a stay, at least eat at the restaurant. It is casual elegance and was entirely unexpected. Our server, Christina, was perfection. She was well versed in the menu and wine list and had great attention to detail. I am so glad that we chose this destination. I went in, not knowing quite what to expect, and came away feeling relaxed and overjoyed.
Clean and reasonable prices for a room with a kitchen and living room. We stayed for two nights and really only used the microwave for heating water, but it was nice to have the options. Pet-friendly was the reason we booked here. They gave us some treats, little baggies, a water bowl, and a rug in a small bucket. Our lab loved the treats and the large bowl since she'd been using the travel bowl. They also provided a list and directions for pet-friendly trails on their pet policy. I will stay again.
The Rapids Restaurant is one of the most amazing places on earth. If you can reserve a riverside table with Tatyana and Max to oversee your visit, I guarantee this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. One of the most unique places on earth.
As a former Inn keeper this was a very clean room 5 stars
I was expecting a bed and the usual dresser. What we found was a full kitchen ready to cook my own food. All types of pans, utensils, dish towels and detergent. Perfect for a long stay! I wish I had planned to stay longer, close to downtown shops and dining out.
Very nice getaway close to Grand Lake! The Tonahutu River is gorgeous!
Our room had its own kitchen. We prepared all of our own meals with food items we brought with us.
Everything was perfect! Nothing to dislike!
Going to Grand Lake, Colorado? Definitely plan on enjoying the restaurant at Rapids Lodge!
This hidden historic gem in downtown Grand Lake on a picturesque creek. It was established in 1915 and feels like you've gone back in time. Our party of 8 was greeted and treated very kindly by the owner, Max and his whole team!
I enjoyed their Pulled Duck Sandwich for lunch, and my goodness it was fabulous: Pulled Duck, Melted Brie, Mixed Berry Preserves, Sautéed Pomegranate Onions and Port Demi on French Bread -- paired lovely with their recommended rosé wine! Kids and the young at heart will also enjoy walking along the creek, as well as walking on the stones in the creek!
They don't take reservations for lunch, so highly recommend planning accordingly!
